2012 Tour of Qinghai Lake | Stage 1: Xining Criterium

Team Specialized Concept Store’s Fabian Schnaidt bagged his third win of 2012 in yesterday’s opening stage, a 96.8km criterium in the Qinghai capital city of Xining. In doing so, the 2011 German U23 road cycling champion also claimed his first victory on Asian soil.

Aah, the benefits of 2.HC status! Local media was all over the first stage of Tour of Qinghai Lake, and we have QQride.com to thank for a video highlights (6:41 in length) package. Rather than bang on about what happened in the stage, click on the below screenshot to see some great footage.

POST-STAGE SNIPPETS

Fabian Schnaidt, (Team Specialized Concept Stores), 1st in stage 1, leader on GC
“I must thank to Alex (team  mate Olexsandr Surutkovych) who does everytime a good job for me. We will see (what the next stage brings). There’s a little climb in the final and I think the good climbers will do a hard pace. For me, a sprinter, maybe it could get hard but I will try everything to stay in the jersey tomorrow. It’s really hard, I never thought I could go so fast in the high (altitude)…I was never at this height before. It’s a new experience.”
