A reliable, if somewhat inert, mainstay of the UCI AsiaTour since its inception in 2005, the eight-day Tour de Korea has recently sprung into life. Elevated from UCI2.2 to UCI2.1 status in 2014, Korea’s only professional road cycling event will this year host a WorldTeam for the first time in its 15-year history.

In May this year, Korea’s Cycling Federation advertised a unique opportunity on its website;  the chance for one male Korean road cyclist to be a stagiaire on Australian ProTeam ORICA-GreenEDGE. With the rider due to be announced on or around July 30, Cycling iQ spoke with the team’s GM, Shayne Bannan, to find out more.

2013 Tour de Korea | Stage 5 (TTT) Live results

To celebrate the introduction of a Team Time Trial to this year’s race, Cycling iQ and Tour de Korea are combining resources to put together a live results board for the stage. It’s pretty simple, but we hope it will add a little more value to the experience for those tuning in.

2013 Tour de Korea | Stage 4: Yeongju – Chungju

Eric Young clinched a second stage victory in his first Tour de Korea on a damp transitional stage from Yeongju to Chungju. His team (Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies) took control of the peloton in the final 5km, usurping MTN-Qhubeka who dismissed a dangerous three-man breakaway in the run to the finish.

2013 Tour de Korea | Stage 3: Gumi – Yeongju

The breakaway survived for a third successive day in Korea but this time the bunch was breathing down the neck of Stage 3 winner Liu Hao.
